If the current number of quills is at or exceeds 50% of the players maximum quills, the AV bonus will be a value determined by mutation level. The players current number of quills determines the AV bonus granted by the mutation. 5% of the time you are hit, you will break between 1-4 quills. Lost quills will regenerate at a rate as determined by mutation level and the player's Willpower. ![]() The Quills mutation grants the player a certain amount of quills to spend on various actions at mutation level 1, the max number of quills is equal to 300, and each mutation level after this will increase the maximum by a random amount between 80-120 quills. Quills is a physical mutation that grants the quills natural equipment, providing the player with natural body armor, melee damage reflection, and the ability to discharge their quills to deal damage around themselves. + (level based) AV as long as you retain half your quills ( (level based) AV otherwise)Ĭreatures attacking you in melee may impale themselves on your quills, breaking roughly 1% of them and reflecting 3% damage per quill broken. Regenerate quills at the approximate rate of (level based) per round May expel 10% of your quills in a burst around yourself ( → (level based) 1d3) So the window where it's useful does seem a little slim.Hundreds of needle-pointed quills cover your body. Right now, it seems like a novelty since the earliest place you can get a non-hand light is the miner's helmet and I usually don't feel comfortable going for that until after I've done Red Rock and the Girsch quests so you'd just have to be a regular cudgel player until then. I imagine you could have some pretty powerful punching that way but it doesn't seem worth it when there's no offhand cudgel skill like short blade's jab. the only way to really get the crushing melee damage would be to get a light source, and invest in ambidexterity. Even worse, however, is whether you equip the torch in your primary hand or your secondary hand, it still functions as your primary weapon and you only get very occasional off-hand hits from the carbide fist. If you attack with a torch, it uses the torch's (terrible) damage instead of the carbide fist. In spite of this, I can't imagine you could use it forever before a fullerite maul or something was a better choice.īut there's more bad news. So even though raw damage doesn't scale you can presumably get better and better criticals if you keep bumping strength. I raised it to 28 at my first attribute and had got it to 10. I got 27 strength to start and had a penetration of 9. However, it's the only weapon I know of that doesn't have a strength cap for penetration. ![]() Second, it doesn't look like the damage scales with level. I got the bludgeoning skill and immediately afterwards my fist started stunning people. So, the news is not great for unarmed characters right at the moment from what I can tell.įirst of all, yes it's a cudgel type weapon. I made a True Kin Child of the Hearth to test mysef: AIVNNKGG13
